Life is a constant classroom. Each and every thing you do, you hopefully will learn from. In school, you learn about others who have done things and learnt from them before you. Your school education is designed to have you understand and learn from others in the past. Therefore it is not the facts of each and everything you learn, but the ideas behind those facts that are important to comprehend. So, in effect, you can fill your mind with a million facts and still know nothing about the world and how we as people function.

Education is so much more than facts. A person full of facts is little more than a breathing encyclopedia. No one considers books as educated. The educated human is the one who knows him/herself and is comfortable in their body. They have learned through life experiences and they have first hand proof of a lot of what they know. An educated person can be filled with facts but he/she must also be wise. Education is more than knowledge, it is wisdom.

I believe that Alec Bourne is trying to define education in a new way. He is basing education not on factual knowledge, but on the ability of one to survive in the world. He means that just because one knows millions of facts, one may still be unable to survive on their own in the fierce modern-day world.

To create a system of economy using gold as a source of currency or to develop and manufacture weapons takes a group of extremely well-educated citizens to think, plan, then build or establish. The more educated the country is the more wealthy and power it will later receive. To create an atomic bomb took a group of scientists (the smartest in the world) years to create. The strong US dollar which in turn relates to the gold stored is so strong because of a strong economic growth. This growth is created by a strong educated work force. The stronger and more educated the population, the stronger the country is.

The strength of the United States is not the gold at Fort Knox or the weapons of mass destruction that we have, but the sum total of the education and the character of our people.

I think the author is trying to say that the Americans are the world leaders because they have the world`s best schools and because of that, very educated people. So the author is saying that even though they have weapons of mass destruction, they are world leaders because of education.

I disagree with this quote as the quote assumes that all women are caring and peaceful. I believe that those who agree need to open their eyes and realize that there are many women who are rude and not caring.

The quote states that the education and empowerment of women "cannot" fail. The women surely can fail at this task and there is a good chance that once they are given power, they will become corrupt and intollerant. Also, women would not be able to make life more peaceful for everyone as there are many countries whre money is such an issue that there could never be any peace.

Bringing equality among women and men in the world can only bring peace among the people. I agree with this quote entirely because allowing women to live among men as their equals will eliminate conflict and allow women to achieve what they are capable of. Women are not less capable of learning or doing a job. In some cases, women are even more capable than men. By educating women and giving them freedom of speech, they have become some of the most powerful minds in history.

For many centuries in a wide variety of societies, women have been stereotyped to be housewives having passive behaviours. However, only recently has female empowerment come to place. I agree that education women, rather than surpressing them can help society. People think of women as the caring peacekeepers, but thati is not all true either. Giving any one of any gender excessive power increases their chance of corruption, but endless education to all can bring everyone to a more equal status.
I think that equality between men and women should be maintained through education. Accordingly, justice will be served.

This quote represent the aspect that some students and schools have forgotten about education; that it is more than math and English. All students should expand their education by participating in sports, community service and other extra-curricular activities. This student that enjoys a wider education may not have straight "A's" but will have a better understanding of life. Memorizing is one thing, but understanding is a whole different world.

I agree with the idea brought up in the quotation that the purpose of education isnot solely to further your understanding of key concepts; but to enable oneself to learn how to be independent as well. School forces students, especially during teenage years, to learn the skills that will be needed post graduation in order to live alone and care for yourself.

I think the quote means education is created for you to grow your imagination and personality instead of others' judgement. I agree with this statement because I feel as though if I didn't work on growing my knowledge in most cases I wouldn't be capable of making righteous decisions. An example of how education is important can be seen in mathematics. I would not be capable of calculating simple things (e.g. addition) and therefore be relying on others.

I think one learns about themself through education. Each student has their own particular way to study which makes them unique. As each person studies differently, whether it is memorizing the information or writing it over and over again, each style is different. I agree with this quote because educations involves studying and through this process one can and will obtain great knowledge about the material but also more importantly about themself.

This quote means that the purpose of education is to obtain skills not so that in the future, one copies a person who has succeeded , but rather that one reallizes his/her potential. In doing so, one can think of original ideas that reflects his/her personality. Education's purpose is to shape a person by giving the tools he/she needs and not to force them into imitation.

To say that the function of education is to be yourself is false. The function of education is to give you the tools you need to survive. Self-pursuit is merely a bonus for going through the process of an education. So although learning to be yourself is a byproduct of education, it is not its function.

I agree with this fully. The goal of education should not be to make a student feel as though if he or she does not succeed at something that his or her education should be deemed pointless. Education should make a student understand that sometimes in life they will have to deal with misfortunes and that they're completely mormal. If people were on one-track minds of success, once a failure occurs they would not be able to cope. Education has the soul purpose fo teaching and enhancing the minds of students. In no way should students fear failure. In fact, they should embrace them as new learning experiences.

Life is a journey, a task given by God as a test for the souls on Earth. Bernard is trying to tell the world to remember that life is a struggles and there are obstacles in our journey. Just like a test, the idea is to overcome these obstacles, which are the questions in a test. If you answer correctly, you succeed, and that makes you move on to the next question, a harder one than the first. If you fail, you must be able to move on, remembering that life is a struggle. Just as they say, the richest man is not always the happiest.

I disagree with this quoe because a good education should not be determined by the success or failure of an individual, but by the way in which he acts and conducts himself. This should be made up by three things: knowledge, respect, and honour.
